Abstract

More and more evidence shows that the microbiome is closely related to liver diseases, but the taxa and the abundance of liver microbiome of patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV) -related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are still not clear. In this study, we performed metaproteomics identification using mass spectrometry data from liver cancer tissue and corresponding adjacent tissue of 165 HCC patients. The results showed that in liver cancer tissue, the number of microorganisms, such as Chloroflexi, Gemmatimonadetes, Xanthomonadales, Legionellales and Oscillatoriales has increased significantly. Using COG (Clusters of Orthologous Groups) database to annotate identified proteins, we also found many function categories of microorganisms that are highly expressed in liver cancer tissue. Compared with the results of the proteomic identification of liver tissue from healthy people, we found that the expression level of Proteobacteria was reduced while the expression level of Firmicutes was increased in liver tissue of the HCC population. Our research could provide more inspiration for the association between dysbiosis of microbial flora in liver and the development of HCC.
